Fixxbook.com: Worth a Look At

In this industry, you can be one or both: a customer looking for service and/or a service provider looking for customers. Now mind you, we may be in the commercial HVAC business but I'm not just talking about HVAC service, so don't stop reading.

So how does one go about finding either of the two? Pre-internet days but well after inscribing your business information on stone slabs, we resorted to using that antiquated thing we used to call a telephone book. Perhaps we employed or seen door-to-door salesmen or telemarketers. Direct mail and newspaper advertising was also a huge hit. Aside from just opening up a telephone book and placing a call, all of these things were quite costly.

Fast forward ever so slightly to the advent of computers, then the internet. We didn’t understand much about computers or this internet thing but we knew we had to have it because all the cool kids on the block had it. After mastering AOL chat and solitaire, some companies started discovering that there was more to this internet thing than just games and virtual arguing. This thing could actually evolve business as we knew it! ServiceChannel was one of those such companies to harness that idea.

Founded in 1999, ServiceChannel is a software company for multi-site operators to manage the service and repair of facilities. This software assists companies in managing their service providers but still left a blank on how these companies even found someone to provide the service in the first place. ServiceChannel solved that issue too and launched Fixxbook.com. Fixxbook was created so that facilities managers and contractors had a better way of connecting and conducting business. Personally, I tend to think of Fixxbook.com as the Facebook of the contractor and facilities manager world, but with less photos of what everyone had for dinner. (ALERT: Shameless Self Promoting: We are on Facebook too.)

Fixxbook is a free, commercial contractor directory. You can showcase your trade, service area, references, awards, and many other important aspects of your business and service offerings. Over 150 nationally recognized brands use Fixxbook daily to find, check credentials and hire contractors for over eighty thousand locations. Not only can you create your free company profile on Fixxbook, but you can also check for service opportunities in your area. To date, over 30,000 work orders have been processed through Fixxbook.

If you are a facilities or building manager looking for service or repair, Fixxbook is a great tool to research service providers in your area. Credentials, references, licenses and much more are available to view on Fixxbook, making your search for service and repair a much more educated one.

“35,000 company profiles representing hundreds of thousands of tradesmen is proof that Fixxbook is the place to find and to be found.” - Eric Schechter, President, Fixxbook.com.

HVAC Systems Service, Inc. is on Fixxbook and you can locate our public profile right here.

Save Money With Preventative Maintenance

"A regular maintenance schedule catches problems, allows for quick replacement of failing equipment, and ensures that the building is operating as intended. Without it, any building owner could be wasting energy and money without even realizing there is a problem." http://www.energystar.gov
Are you maintaining your HVAC equipment? If not, don't feel like you're the only one. Fact is, preventative maintenance performed on your HVAC equipment is much like the preventative maintenance you've been performing on your car for years, except you don't see your heating and air conditioning units that sit on top of you roof. They are seldom thought about until they fail. Those failures can cost thousands of dollars because everyone along the supply chain has to scramble, and convenience is costly.
"Preventative maintenance will improve IAQ (indoor air quality) and reduce energy use by removing contaminant sources (e.g. clean coils / drain pans), and insuring proper calibration and efficient operation of mechanical components (e.g. fans, motors, thermostats, and controls). Data from many buildings throughout the United States show that a properly commissioned building with controls and equipment functioning properly can save 5% - 15% in total building energy costs." http://www.epa.gov

I've always known for him to provide his clients with excellent service and to bring value to his jobs. He has a great reputation and well respected in the community. - Chuck Sanderson, Director of Technical Sales & Services, Superior Manufacturing Division

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard Jones and his staff for the reliable and consistent service they have provided Indiana’s NewsCenter over the years. Because the continuous operation of our facility depends on systems that are capable of providing 24-hour cooling for technical equipment, accommodating a significant lighting load and providing a comfortable environment for staff ranging from 30 to 130 persons, protecting that equipment is one of our top priorities. His company has helped us do that by providing knowledgeable technicians and quick response times. We have recommended his company to others because of our satisfaction with their service. We look forward to doing business with him for years to come." - Bret Angel, hired Richard as a HVAC Systems Service Company in 1998, and hired Richard more than once

"Richard and his company have always provided us with great service for our customers. He is reasonable to work with whenever a situation arrises that needs a solution." - Don Vannatta, hired Richard as a HVAC in 1999, and hired Richard more than once

Managing Going Green

It’s a rare evening that you can read or watch the news and not learn of an event involving the going-green trend. The green movement, for good reason, is upon us and here to stay. A quick search of the internet will provide you with more than enough facts and figures related to the waste produced in our country versus the multitude of benefits that recycling provides.

Recycling is just as vital (and in certain instances, regulated by laws) for contractors and the like as it is for homeowners. Many communities now go so far as to provide recycling benefits to its citizens. Whether you are a homeowner, contractor, business owner, or any combination, recycling is key to ensuring that future generations don’t have to ‘mine’ landfills for the resources that historically, so many have willingly tossed into the garbage with little or no thought to potential consequences.

As a contractor, managing the recycling of waste can be a complex chore in an ever-changing go-green world. It isn’t like at home where you just have to remember what items you can toss into which recycle bin. As a contractor, you must know the laws that govern recycling on a local, state, and federal level as well as what you can recycle, what recycling items can generate income for your organization, and where to deliver or call for pickup of recyclable items.

While doing some research online, I came across an innovative solution to these issues offered by Green Halo Systems. Green Halo Systems can help you create waste management plans for your projects. Comprehensive reports are generated in real time, as well as calculated project carbon, statistics, and more. Green Halo Systems also includes tools to identify recyclable materials as well as assists in locating the nearest recycling facilities. With mobile access and the ability to share data with your clients and subcontractors, the Green Halo system is an attractive and time-saving must-have tool for today’s green centered movement.

Regardless if you are building green, building LEED, or just plain curious as to how much waste is recycled, this is a great tool to track just that. With so many local, state, and federal laws governing recycling, it can be quite confusing. Green Halo Systems provides the necessary tools to transparently comply with such.

We at HVAC Systems Services, Inc. take the environmental issues facing us today quite seriously as it does impact future generations. "Going green" shouldn’t be merely a common term heard by many and practiced by few, rather, it should be a priority. It is easy to see why there are so many complexities for a contractor to recycle and manage their waste plan that we feel Green Halo Systems is certainly worth a look at, and they provide a free demo.

Maintenance Plans

The importance of keeping the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and control systems at peak operating efficiency is greater than ever.  It is very easy to lose control of these complex systems.  Up to 30% of wasted energy can be attributed to this loss of control.

A maintenance and inspection program should be designed for individual building and equipment applications.  HVAC Systems Service, Inc. can design a customized program to suit your building equipment and budget.  The dollars you save will help pay for your program in utility savings and a reduction in downtime.

We offer several plans and all are customized to suit your equipment, needs, and budget:

Full Coverage Service Agreement:
This agreement is similar to an insurance policy whereas it includes Premium Inspections, new filters per each scheduled inspection and new belts once per year. HVAC Systems Service, Inc. covers most parts for replacement on this agreement at no further cost to our clients (includes labor).

Premium Inspection Agreement:
A 113 point inspection which does include filter changes per each scheduled inspection and one new belt per unit per year. This inspection process is designed to catch a potential problem area BEFORE major costs are involved in repair or even replacement.

Economy Inspection Agreement:
This is our basic 41 point inspection, major moving parts and visual inspection of filters and belts. A better alternative than going without a preventive maintenance program if a Premium Inspection just isn’t in the budget.

Not all buildings and systems are alike.  In this respect, the client should not utilize a contractor just because they are the lowest bidder.  It may cost the owner more money in the long run through increased energy usage, shortened equipment life span, excessive replacement parts costs, undue downtime and continuing service calls.  Caveat emptor - let the buyer beware.
